Bodyscape∫

Smiling is dangerous
You thought friendly means welcome
I thought friendliness is etiquette
It’s time to put on a mask
Crystal clear trembling
Try to let the corners of your mouth drop
Deadpan for twenty minutes
Exercise on daily morning and evening
Learning to be a bitter gourd

Taiwanese artist Hsu Yi Ting Bodyscape∫, an exhibition+performance in which she presents the works developed during the short-term residency in Hangar. Bodyscape, as a production method and concept, is a work on how the human body builds the scape in the field, on how the body behaves, how it can be collaged, changed or shaped in Barcelona under capitalism. Rsearch objects include Hsu herself and mobile vendors on the beach. “∫” stands for the scape of time and route during Hsu’s stay with abstract paintings. The independent variable “x” notes the views captured during that time, present through the video works and live performance.

Hsu Yi Ting holds an institutional residency at Hangar in collaboration with the Taipei Economic and Cultural Office and the Ministry of Culture of Taiwan.
