Basic workshop for Super 8 B/W initiation

On May 7th, the collective in residence Crater-Lab will conduct the workshop Basic workshop for Super 8 B/W initiation in Hangar. Over the course of a day, all the processes necessary to make a Super 8 film will be addressed. The workshop will be divided between a theoretical introduction and afterwards it will move on to practice in order to make a collective film.

Theoretical part:

Brief introduction to the origins of the Super 8 format and its development.

The different cameras that emerged, focusing on the ones we will use for filming.

Explanation of the reversible developing process, which is the one we will develop in the workshop.

Screening of a selection of Super 8 films in which the format is used creatively.

Practical part:

Oriented filming, with the aim of making a collective film with a certain aesthetic approach.

Reversible developing, in which we will see the whole chemical process, developing the formulas in a handmade way and learning how to load the spiral for developing in the LOMO tank.

Film drying.

Use of the Super 8 splicer to prepare the film for projection.

Brief explanation of the operation of the projector, and projection of the film.

Observations: The workshop will provide all the materials and devices necessary for filming, developing, editing and projection.

Requirements for participation: Aimed at artists, filmmakers, students and anyone interested in the creation of moving images, filmic materiality and the artisanal processes of cinematographic creation and experimentation.
