Ways of attending: (oceanic) listening devices and methodologies
A meeting with researchers from the Institut de Ciències del Mar will take place at the Hangar on Monday the 30th of June, from 11 am to 1 pm, as part of UN OCÉANO (POR VENIR): etnografías cuir, a project by Mafe Moscoso as part of the VIII Fundació Banc Sabadell – Hangar artistic research grant.
Revisiting scientific work probably means turning our gaze towards research processes in order to question the ontologies that sustain them. This meeting is an invitation to share different devices for listening to the ocean in order to open up questions that revolve around what we understand by listening, how sounds are recorded, what life(s) we attribute to the ocean, the role of chance or error, or how to listen to the inaudible.
The meeting is an invitation to experiment with different modalities (scientific, artistic, anthropological) of acoustic access to the ocean, in order to explore ways of connecting, approaching and engaging with the worlds that make up the oceanic, from a perspective that is not necessarily anthropocentric.
To this end, participants are invited to bring tools and registers so that, with a bit of luck, we can create the conditions for the emergence of a disposition to transform given meanings, to break with the literal and to embrace the unpredictable, in a context of mourning and planetary extinction.
