Entre lo imaginario y lo posible. Introduction to spatial and collective sound composition

No slots available

In OLLA’s Common Reserarch Programme, Rubén Patiño presents Entre lo imaginario y lo posible, a workshop that explores the intersection between sound composition and space (the physical, the imaginary and the social). Through listening exercises and practical experimentation, basic acoustic and psychoacoustic principles will be introduced, as well as basic techniques for creating spatial works. Different audio formats (monophonic, stereo, quadraphonic, binaural) and presentation typologies that interact dynamically with space and audience will be explored.

Through listening exercises and discussion of selected works, we aim to rethink the use of space in sound practice. Rather than focusing solely on technical aspects, this workshop aims to encourage a collective rethinking of the spatialisation of sound, prioritising emotional, sensory and social dimensions.

Participants will gain practical knowledge of the creative potential of multiple loudspeaker arrangements, headphones and free software tools. Together we will develop a public performance format.

This workshop is for anyone interested in sound and space composition, with or without previous experience.

On July 11th at 8:00 p.m., there will be a public presentation of what was experienced during the workshop.

Rubén Patiño is an artist whose practice revolves around sound as a communicative and emotional medium and its potential to transform the perception of physical and mental space. Through various solo and collaborative projects (with Morten Olsen, Kay Schuttel, Arnau Sala, Daniele Guerini, Roc Jiménez…), his proposals tend to explore the boundaries between concert, performance, public event and installation. His work has been presented, mostly live, in museums (Museo Nacional Centro de Arte Reina Sofia, MACBA, Moderna Museet, Fundação de Serralves), institutions (La Casa Encendida, Blue Project Foundation, Laboratorio Arte Alameda, OGR), clubs (Berghain, Macao, OHM, Cxema) and festivals in Europe, America, Asia, Africa, Russia and Australia (CTM, Unsound, Atonal, Sonar, Mutek, Live Arts Week, Rewire, Les Urbaines, Sonic Acts, Riga International Biennial of Contemporary Art, Lapsus, Skanu Mesz, Today’s Art).
He has also held residencies at Hangar, EMS, Cripta747, NK, Eufònic and Rupert.

His work has been released in various formats (vinyl, cd, cassette, digital) on labels such as The Trilogy Tapes, Diagonal Records, Where To Now?, The Death of Rave, Anòmia, Haunter Records and Gang of Ducks.

Since 2022 Ruben Patiño teaches sound at the Design Academy Eindhoven.
