Call: a popular archive for the decline of social networks

a popular archive for the decline of social networks
was born as an experimental archival initiative linked to Paula Pérez-Roda’s research project ‘Formas de matar el mundo’. It has the social mission of making the transition to a scenario for the demise of social networks, platform capitalism and its ways of organising human experience more livable. It operates through voluntary donations of digital messaging interactions and in the speculative framework of generating a legible digital time capsule into the future, seeking gestural provocation with respect to the cellularisation and datification of contemporary interactions, finding ‘works’ in data.

a popular archive for the decline of social networks is an intuition for the future:
it will be secret until whatsapp ceases to occupy the hegemonic position in the management of intimate and text-affective communication.
wants to take care of our text-affective heritage by generating a brief verbal collection that represents part of what life has been like between 2012 and 2024.
seeks donations; but does not seek to make actual use of the archive. If any use is made of the archive, the credit for such use will be agreed at the donor’s discretion.
seeks to understand and combat social toxicity in digital environments.
will not be a publicly accessible project until 2150, unless agreed with each donor in the context of the ecosocial decline of social networks.
