Christina Schultz selected for the Traverse program
The selected artist to participate at the Traverse pilot residency program are Christina Schultz from Hangar and Anders Visti (Trade Test Site) from l’Aabkc a Aarhus, Denmark.
For this year’s pilot residency we suggest to perform a collaborative long distance artists exchange to explore the figure of the artist as producer, and his/her relations and tensions with both the object produced and the context in which it is developed (in this case Traverse). On other words and to sum up a question: What is the relation between a political, cultural, economical and social awareness and the autonomy of an art work and its producer (the artist), in the frame of a collective art practice and collaborative production.
Traverse – Connecting International Art Communities is a new program that enables remote collaboration between local and international artists.
The project wants to partner with community-focused arts organizations from all over the world to create opportunities for artists who want to work internationally without spending the time and money needed for travelling. Traverse pairs local, Aarhus-based artists with visual artists from our partner organizations (in this case, Hangar in Barcelona) and invite them to enter into creative dialogue. This may involve mailing exchanges, bilocated performances, trans-continental gestures, or other forms of long-distance communication.
Traverse is a platform for open-ended experimentation that prioritizes process and discourse over artistic production. Participating artists are free to test new modes of collaboration without being obligated to produce a final project or art object. The goal, instead, is to start a conversation. With Traverse, we hope to generate new questions, new ideas, and new relations between culturally-diverse artists.
