Gamelán Barasvara
Gamelan Barasvara is a music and dance group born in 2020 out of a shared fascination for Balinese musical tradition, and is a space for intercultural dialogue and collective discovery. The profile of its members is very diverse in terms of nationality, age and professional activity.
With a permanent residence at the Museu de la Música de Barcelona, its aim is to deepen the knowledge of the musical and choreographic interpretation of the Balinese musical tradition. At the same time, the group has a local perspective and promotes artistic experimentation with the gamelan. Under the musical direction of Lluís Solsona, Gamelan Barasvara regularly collaborates with Balinese masters such as AABG Krishna Putra Sutedja, as well as academic experts such as Dr Kendra Stepputat.
They have recently performed at the Convent de Sant Agustí Civic Centre, the Sala Montjuïc, the Barcelona Auditorium and regularly at the Museu de la Música de Barcelona. In 2022, the members of Gamelan Barasvara founded the Barcelona Gamelan Association with the aim of contributing directly or indirectly to the preservation and dissemination of gamelan culture.
For Rarefacció 2024, Gamelan Barasvara offers a programme that combines traditional pieces with newly created pieces by A. A. Krishna Sutedja and La Danza de la Guerrera, a co-creation by Violeta Tello Grau (composition) and Judit Barahona (dance).
Amiga
AMIGA is the nickname of Josep Comas, an artist from Barcelona who, after several years in the service of pop music, decided, in an act of artistic sincerity, to explore his more contemplative and exotic side, bringing together years of experience as a studio musician, sound engineer and producer in a single concept. Kind, serene, genderless and faceless, AMIGA is an entity that does not show its face, as it only exists at the moment it steps on stage to show itself. Like a mystical apparition or an encounter with a solitary animal in the depths of the sea.
Fleeing from restrictive labels and in constant search of an ever-stricter identity, his music leaves us irrevocably with shades of his closest influences such as Ryuichi Sakamoto, Aphex Twin, Johann Johannsson, Underworld, Claude Debussy or Brian Eno. His first published work is the original soundtrack for Laura Sisteró’s documentary Tolyatti Adrift, which won the award for Best Original Score at the Thinline Fest international festival in Texas. He is currently recording his first LP, BANGBABALAS, which will be released in early 2024.
Suso Saiz
Avant-garde musician, composer and producer, considered a reference in electronic music in Spain, he is an imaginative and subtle guitarist, creator of unmistakable “hypnotics”.
His tireless activity covers a wide range of musical and other disciplines. His signature can also be found as a composer for film and television, in chamber music, in an endless list of collaborations. However, his activity goes beyond music and sound: his prolific output includes, among other things, projects created in interaction with theatre, visual arts, poetry, installations and commissioned works in collaboration with museums, architecture studios, chefs, etc.
